Courses COSMETOLOGY COURSE The Kentucky State Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists require 1800 hours of instruction. The Freshman portion of the course, or the first 300 hours of instruction, include lectures, demonstrations, and mannequin practice in basic hairstyling fundamentals. These include dimensional design, pincurl and roller application and control, basic hair cutting techniques, chemical services, including; permanent waving, relaxing and color, and manicuring and facials. As an intermediate, the student is introduced to the clinic lab where he/she works on patrons and exercise the knowledge gained during the Freshman course. (It is only through applied knowledge that the necessary experience and comprehension of cosmetology develops). As the student progresses through the course of training, becoming more proficient in hairdressing procedures, the clinic lab work becomes more salon oriented in its scheduling. All clinic experiences are monitored under the direct supervision of the faculty. The Redken Scientific Educational System utilized by the school is a highly technical teaching method which includes trico-analysis, hair through the microscope, creative concepts in hair color, and training tapes available to our student in all phases of cosmetology by highly specialized experts in our profession. Upon completion of the course (with satisfactory progress) the student will be required to pass an examination given by the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology to receive an Apprentice Cosmetology License. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS * 2 years of high school or its equivalent * 16 years of age or older MANICURIST COURSE The length of the Manicurist Course is 600 hours, and is designed to train individuals the skills necessary for performing manicuring services. The course covers techniques such as artificial nail applications, nail shaping, color selection and polish application, care and condition of the nail, common nail disorders, massage of the hand and arm, and business management. Upon completion of the course, the student will be required to pass an examination given by the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology to receive a manicuring license.
